 The Globe will be hosting a flag workshop this Saturday at 3pm.  Help Section 8 prepare a number of s8 and City flags while enjoying a few pints with some new friends.  Section 8 flags will be available for $15 each, but feel free to assemble your own homemade flags for just $2 to cover the supplies.

The Fire's New TV Deal and Kenn Tomasch

The Fire today announced a new television deal that will see them broadcast a record 18 games on My50 Chicago WPWR-TV.  Good news for the team locally, but long-time announcer Kenn Tomasch will not be part of the commentary team this season. Fred Huebner will be the play-by-play man and he'll be joined by Chris Doran as color analyst. So what happened to Tomasch?

The Fire and Chicago's New Women's Team

Peter Wilt, the former GM and President of the Chicago Fire, is running a sweepstake as his women's team (which will begin play in 2009 at Toyota Park) chooses its name. The choices, available here, all relate in some way to the history of Chicago, in an echo of the origins of our own Chicago Fire.

The chances of the Fire winning a significant trophy (MLS Cup, Open Cup, Supporters Shield) in any given year were essentially 30% as recently as 2004 - odds dropped to one in four in 2006 and 21% this year.  With the expansion to Seattle and Philadelphia, however, chances of a major trophy will plummet to only 19% by 2010.

All Suspiciously Quiet on the Western Front

    Six weeks to go and the silence is deafening. The MLS 2008 season opens the last week of March and while other clubs around the league are hustlin’ players in and out, the Chicago Fire have had a rather uninspiring off-season. While there have been major staff-level changes, a new Technical Director or Academy Coach just doesn’t quite get the fans hyped up and hopeful. Unfortunately, the sort of news that does has gone missing this year. For the record here’s a quick version of the story thus far.

2008 Season Tickets for $200

Until 21 March, season tickets in Section 8 are again available for $200. Regular gameday prices will remain at $15-$20. Section 8 (117/118) is a standing room only, general admission area. No seating is assigned and participation is expected. Your view may be obstructed.

FWFK Luncheon 2008

The Fireworks For Kids Foundation will be holding their annual team luncheon on Tuesday March 25th. Location and time is unknown at the moment, however in the past, the event has been from 11a-2p. The first hour is a meet and mingle with the entire team and coaches. Lunch is usually served at noon with speeches from coaches, players, and office staff. There is also a blind auction with different Fire and soccer memorabilia.

This is a great event to meet the team and various fans. If you are interested in attending, please see the thread below. Price is around $60 per person. Tables hold about 10 people.

Friday's the big day for Major League Soccer and the next chapter in the Fire's eventful offseason. With many questions to be answered, many roster needs to fill, and a league that appears ready to wheel and deal, the team is in a very good position to swing a few deals.

Long Search Ends at Home

In what GM John Guppy marked as “a signature day” in the history of the Chicago Fire, Denis Hamlett was named the fourth head coach in team history. With 10 years of experience assisting championship managers Bob Bradley and Dave Sarachan, Hamlett remarked that he had been working towards this goal for a long time. “There is no other place I'd rather have this opportunity,” replied the new manager.
