In order to address some of the inaccuracies and misconceptions related to the current situation between Fire fans (as represented by the Section 8 Chicago ISA) and the Chicago Fire Soccer Club (as well as their contracted representatives, Toyota Park and Monterrey Security), we have prepared this FAQ -- a set of the most frequent questions recieved and their answers. The ISA wishes to remain as transparent and clear in their representation as possible, in order to foster its maximum effectiveness in reaching a satisfactory conclusion. *** PLEASE CHECK BACK REGULARLY AS QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS WILL BE UPDATED *** What exactly happened to Sector Latino on August 2nd against Chivas? |

Have you seen this anywhere?
It seems now is as good of a time as any to point this out.
Many of you have been wondering why the Megabandera has not been used this season. The ISA chairman and operations team spent considerable time and energy locating a facility to repair and rejuvenate the MB ahead of the 2008 season, way back in February/March. An appointment was scheduled, and transportation/logistics arranged for a weekday night to transport the MB to be fixed, and arrived at Toyota Park at the scheduled time.
After some searching, we were informed that the Chicago Fire had lost the Megabandera.
Lost. A 400-pound, 250'x70' screaming red banner, entrusted to the club's care. A $10,000 one, completely funded and constructed by Fire fans and used in every piece of marketing material the Fire has produced -- but whose real worth was priceless.
No one flew off the handle. No one screamed and shouted. The information was kept private for six months out of courtesy and respect for the Fire and its employees and to avoid needless ridicule and outcry. Even as we speak, procedures are in place to produce another, paid out of our own pockets again if necessary.
Your elected volunteer ISA reps make the decisions we do because we love our club, even in spite of itself.
Just thought you all might like to know that tonight. |

What is it like to be part of one of the Fire's most dedicated, positive and vibrant supporters' groups and yet to face continual, racially motivated abuse from security at Toyota Park? Ask Sector Latino, who have been targeted since their emergence in 2005 by Monterrey Security, and who received disgraceful racist abuse from guards at the last home game against Chivas USA. Following this, Section 8 Chicago called a series of meeting to explore the details of the situation and put together a course of action to resolve the problem. In sum, it was determined that Section 8 must stand in solidarity with SL and that Monterrey's racist guards can no longer be present in the section. Backdraft was present and offers a full report on proceedings below. |

With Chad Barrett gone and Brian McBride in China, we'll be getting to know Tomasz Frankowski pretty well on the field in the upcoming month. So Backdraft decided to catch up with Tomasz off the field as well, as he explains his finishing philosophy, life in Chicago, and his biggest mistake. Read the interview in both English and Polish. An interview with Tomasz Frankowski. A Polish translation is also available. |

“Yo si le voy, le voy a Chikago!”
For those new to Section 8 the last few seasons, the pulsating rhythms, constant jumping, and perpetual flag-waving of Sector Latino are integral to the flavor of the Harlem End as a whole. Their new location in the front portion of 117 is a product of their alliance with Ultras Red-Side, who occupies the center portion of the same section, and whom work together to establish and maintain the beat of support on match days. Their songs (mostly in Spanish) have begun to fully integrate themselves with the standards making it now difficult to imagine a Section 8 without a Sector Latino. |
