Welcome To Chicago

Posted by: Ben in Untagged  on

In case you haven't heard, the name of the Chicago's Women's Professional Soccer team was officially announced yesterday. And as the advisory fan poll indicated they might do, the team has been named the Chicago Red Stars.

Just as the Chicago Fire's identity has been built on the history of our great city, so they have also chosen wisely by linking the team to our civic pride through the connection to the Chicago flag, whose stars refer to the key moments in Chicago's past.

Congratulations to all those involved. On behalf of all of us here at Section 8 Chicago and for all the fans that stand and sing in Section 8, I would like to welcome you to the Chicago soccer family and to a place where Fire fans call home, Toyota Park.

Through my personal interactions and the official time I've given on behalf of our section, I can say I am very proud of what you have already accomplished and I am excited about your future here in Chicago.

To President Peter Wilt, General Manager Marcia McDermott, Head Coach Emma Hayes and the rest of those already on board with the Red Stars -- as well as the players and staff still to arrive -- a very hearty welcome to Chicago and Toyota Park. We are looking forward to your opening season in 2009, and beyond.

-Ben

Section 8 Chicago is already working to try and help find and organize people that want to form a supporters group for the Red Stars. Who's got the passion for the team? We want to go, report on the games, help, etc. But we also need someone to head up the charge for this team. Someone solely focused on the Red Stars as their love, not a secondary team.
