Can you play the trumpet? Can you play the drums? Do you have an idea for using an instrument that we’re not already using? If you would like to help Section 8 help the team, Section 8 needs your help for only a few minutes a game.

Don’t be afraid. As you know most of the tunes are simple enough. You don’t have to be a classically trained musician to support the team!

We're recruiting people to help play the trumpet for one song before a game starts or drum for 10-20 minute stints during the run of play. You would be welcome to play longer, but that would just be a bonus for everyone involved.

First off, the trumpet. We currently have one trumpet player and he has a few ideas that he needs help implementing. He says that anywhere from 3-6 players total would be more than enough to create the sound that he’s trying to create. You have to supply the trumpet, but since it's just for one song before the game starts, you could return to your regular seat if you don't already stand in Section 8.

There are more opportunities to play during the game as well. We already have different songs that require at least one trumpet but they would be better with a few more. But if we could start by recruiting a few more players just for one song before the game in would be a tremendous improvement. And if you’re not already someone who stands in the Harlem End, perhaps you will get addicted to being in the Section like the rest of us and end up staying for the entire game.

Section 8 drums

The drumming position is a bit more exhausting. We already have a rotation of drummers, and we would like to help them receive a little more rest during games. The job is thankless and tiring, and you might receive complaints from the peanut gallery. But it is absolutely essential to what we do. If you can keep a beat on a big bass drum or tap out a tune on a snare, and you think you can do it for 10-20 minutes, join us. We have drums already, so you’re not required to bring any equipment.

Last but not least, if you have any ideas for incorporating new instruments, stop by our pregame tailgate and introduce yourself. Creative ideas always welcome.

No, you will not receive any pay, but you might receive the adoration of the fans and players. And maybe you'll get a free beer or two out of it.
