When Section 8 Chicago first approached the Chicago Fire regarding the allegations of racism at Toyota Park, we were obviously very disappointed in the club’s initial reaction. So disappointed that we felt we had to follow through with our plans for a silent protest at the game on August 16th. And while the team may have lost to D.C. United, the ISA truly hopes and believes that the overall result of voicing our concerns will be positive. Prior to Saturday’s game, the Chicago Fire took what we believe was a very important next step towards resolving the issue. Here is a letter we received from Interim President, Javier Leon:
Ben BurtonAnd in Spanish:
It’s an important acknowledgment that our concerns were raised. I do firmly believe that Javier Leon takes these concerns seriously, but as of right now there has not been a time set to meet with the Club to discuss the next steps. We hope something can be arranged in the coming days. In the meantime, we would like to invite all of you to an informal Q&A session at The Globe Pub at 7:30PM, before this Thursday’s game against LA. A few of us should be on hand to help clarify any misconceptions and have an open dialog regarding the next steps in the process. If you haven’t already, please feel free to read the F.A.Q. we’ve put up to help clarify any questions you may have.
