Blogging in the New Year Print E-mail
Written by Ben

For my new years resolution I've decided that I'll be blogging a bit more than before. I think it's important, considering some of the issues we've faced this past year, that I keep everyone a bit more informed. To do that I plan to pull some of the information out of our fourms and into a blog where more people can see it.

I have to admit, I've been hugely inspired by Peter Wilt's ability to blog like crazy - good or bad, rain or shine. I think it'll be very important for the growth of Section 8 and overall Fire fan community to continue in that tradition by adding more transparency and openness to what we do. I encourage everyone to blog and get involved in open discussions on all subjects.

So without further ado...

Opening day for the 2009 season has been announced. The Chicago Fire will be in Dallas on Saturday, March 29th, 7:30 p.m. CT. Two days ago we were contacted by Dallas Burn, um, F*C* Dallas representatives about tickets for the match, and yesterday I contacted the Fire about helping to promote a road trip.

In the meantime the discussion has already begun on the forums. We're looking for someone to head up coordinating the trip and being the main contact for all your questions. It looks like airfares are currently under $300, and the drive from Chicago is long, like 24 hours long. We have some fans who will drive in from the area so start your planning now.

Ben, I am glad to hear you plan to up the blog material here.

I plan on doing more on this end as well, if not now, once the season rolls around. I also plan on talking less and doing more in general, so hopefully that lends well to the writing.

On that note - I am not a techie but maybe we can start a discussion here to get more ideas out there.... if we are going to take the blogging end of this site to a new level, I see two important things that need to happen:

1. Integrate the forums with the rest of the site, so a user can fluidly navigate from the forums to the blog and vice versa. This will - again, as the kid that doesn't know shit about the internet - up the traffic to the respective area that a casual viewer may not normally notice. It will also drastically increase the ease of discussing on the forums and blog articles (without having to switch log-ins) and make for more active blog discussions.

2. Re-organize the 3 tabs named Home, Section 8 News and Backdraft. Or get rid of one of them and clearly de-note what material will be placed in each of 2 tabs, without the material being repeated. I think this will also help the ease of navigation throughout the blog area, thus furthering the activity and the discussion end of things.

That might not make tons of sense, but I know this can be such a better resource for Section 8ers to come to for info. Above that, it can be a great place for soccer fans in general to come to see the best supporters group blog in the country.

consider yourself forewarned - WB05 is bringin' da ruckus on the writing tip in '09... at least until the whiskey runs dry or the air store goes broke.
